Joseph & Joe - Part 3
Joseph Sayers and Joe Oppedisano: a golden duo when it comes to creating beautiful images. The series of photo's they did together for this months edition of PREF Magazine is another good example of that.
Joseph Sayers has been actively involved in sports ever since he was a kid. Soccer, football, baseball, wrestling. You name it. It wasn't until his older sisters got involved in pageants, that he got the idea of giving modeling a shot. After wasting time and money on several model searches, being told he was too short, he got in contact with New York based agency Major Model Management who gave him his chance. His big turning point came with the Abercrombie & Fitch centerfold, shot by Bruce Weber. But that didn't happen before Joseph had to deal with the negative side of working in the public eye.
You have modeled for several photographers, with different styles, and in many stages of nudity. How far are you willing to go in modeling?
Joseph: I feel that I've done the extend of nudity that I'm willing to do. I'm pretty sure that everyone is aware of a mistake I had made in the beginning of my career (I have recently purchased the rights to those photographs to prevent sharing, publishing and posting), so everything can see how far I have gone opposed to how far I'm willing to go.
How does your family and surrounding react to the more provocative and sexual loaded photography you have done with, for example, Joe Oppedisano?
Joseph: I honestly don't know. I'd have to ask them. I know my family was very proud to see my Abercrombie Quarterly.
What is next for Joseph Sayers? What project you working on?
Joseph: I honestly don't know that is next. I know of what is going on and what I'll be doing, but I don't make any mention of what I'll be doing or have done until after it has been published. I can mention that I'll be working with Joe Oppedisano again as he is not only an amazing photographer, but an amazing person and personal friend.
Do you have any peculiarities or obsessions we absolutely should be aware of?
Joseph: I CANNOT diet. Many people have that discipline but I don't. I need my sugar. I need to indulge myself with chocolate. So my body is 50% hardcore aerobics and 50% genetics.

Joseph: "Don't be a fool. Stay in school"... I'm just playing around.... In all honestly, I'd like to thank everyone for their support and interests in my career over the years. If it wasn't for the people that identify with my image, I wouldn't have the career that I have nor would I have had the experiences that I have had.

the subject matter obviously holds, but the playfulness of the photographer within these various series is what appeals to me the most. wonderful!

Very nice interview with Joseph, and Joe's photos are stunning! I'm so jealous that you got them before we did! :) Some of my favorite photos of Joseph were taken by Joe O., and these just confirm that Joseph is like Joe O's muse now. It's a great collaboration between model and photographer, and a great interview concept! Au chapeau!
