Two men have been hanged in a public square in northern Iran after being found guilty of homosexuality a semi-official newspaper reported on Sunday. The daily newspaper Kayhan said that the execution was carried out in the northern city of Gorgan. The paper reported the men had been found guilty under Islamic law of lavat, or homosexual sex. The report identified the men as Mokhtar N., 24, and Ali A., 25. The account claimed the men had “criminal past” that included kidnapping and rape. Similar allegations have been made in the past when Iran executed gay men. Exiled Iranian groups say that the allegations are commonly used to justify hangings.
Homosexuality is a capital offense under Islamic law and gays have been under increasing pressure.
In August, another gay man was executed for homosexuality and on July 19 two gay teenagers were executed in the northeastern city of Mashhad. The hangings sparked international outrage. The Iranian government maintains the teens had raped a 13 year old boy - an allegation that many international rights groups discounted.
The Iran Student News Association has just released a new photo of the two gay teens - one 18, one 17 - hanged in the Iranian city of Mashad on July 19 as part of the Islamic Republic of Iran's lethal crackdown on gay people. This new photo, shown here, is even more gruesome and shocking than the pictures of the two boys on the scaffold, published earlier this year.
The exiled Iranian gay rights group, Homan, claims the Iranian government has executed at least 4,000 gays since 1979. Several European countries halted extraditions of Iranian gays back to country following the executions. But, both the US and Britain have been silent on the issue.

There is also a (dutch) petition which circulated on the Internet. You can sign it in order to put a stop to these killings.

Thank you for posting this! It's an awful picture, but so important to let people know that this kind of thing does and can happen. Religious fundamentalism is very scary when carried to this extreme.

Thank you for exposing the extreme and barbaric actions resulting from the fanatical hatred evolved from within a man-made fundamentalist religion which has caused sorrow that civilized mankind will recognize. When a person or group of people are able to justify their own criminal and monstrous thoughts, by murdering another human because of that person's God-given expression of Being and sexual identity, it becomes obvious that the persons responsible for the murder have lost their humanity and enlightenment. The act of murdering beautiful young teenage boys, for naturally exploring their own sexuality, is without a doubt in my soul, an abomination against Mankind and against God... Any persons who think such actions are OK should more wisely ask God to teach them the meaning of LOVE. Simply known, LOVE IS what GOD IS!!!
I am certain those responsible for hanging these teenage boys, have committed an evil action. I strongly condemn their lack of respect for Mankind and for destroying God's Creations.
Love & Peace, Christian

To hear about something like this is shocking, to see it is heartbreaking. That America would actually even consider extraditing gay Iranian refugees is absolutely shameful.

This is sick. How could gay men just let this all pass them by?

I am not a proponent of capital punishment unlike 'christian or nic'. I'm not gay. Bi once, but not anymore. I guess that wouldn't matter in Mashhad or Wyoming, where a young man was tied to a barbed wire fence. Lest we forget. The prejudice thrives in all religions. The revolution is not over until everyone is free.
